Although he likely composed at least ninety works, Austrian composer Franz Xaver Gruber (1787-1863) is most remembered and best loved for the melody he wrote for Father Joseph Mohr's Christmas carol "Silent Night."
Gruber was also great-great-grandfather of Twentieth Century Austrian composer HK Gruber.
