The English Romantic composer was born Edward German Jones in 1862. His primary area of composition was in operetta, closely associated with Gilbert and Sullivan and the D'Oyly Carte company. He wrote little after 1910, evidently feeling out of touch with the changes of the Modern period. He died in 1936.
