Edmond Dédé (1827-1903) was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. Savings and the help of friends led him to study in Europe. Jacques-Francois Halevy was an instructor at the Paris Conservatory of Music. He finished his studies, moved to Bordeaux, France, married, and remained in France until his death.
