Born in 1937 in Cloverdale, California, Del Tredici attended the University of California at Berkeley and Yale University, studying composition with Earl Kim, Seymour Shifrin and Roger Sessions. He has had commissions from nearly every major American and European orchestra. His many prizes include the 1980 Pulitzer for In Memory of a Summer Day.
