English twentieth century light music composer Ronald Binge (1910-1969) spent much of his early musical life playing in London theater, cafe, and dance ensembles. In 1935, he became an arranger for Annunzio Paolo Mantovani and his Tipica Orchestra. For Mantovani, Binge devised the "cascading strings" effect that became the orchestra's signature. Major works include A Scottish Rhapsody, The Whispering Valley Trade Winds Concerto for Alto Saxophone, and Saturday Symphony.
