Joe Satriani, one of the first shredders to achieve fame in the 80's, ironically does not consider himself one. Most fans and critics would tend to agree with him, as his taste, melodic sense and feel places him far beyond the countless, faceless imitators of the 80's. His drive to expand his boundaries has moved him in unexpected directions including roots music in 1995's self-titled release and electronica in 2000's "Engines of Creation".
