Grand Funk Railroad is a hard rock band from Flint, Michigan, formed in 1968 by guitarist and songwriter Mark Farner and drummer Don Brewer. They were joined by bassist Mel Schacher, formerly of ? and the Mysterians. The band quickly gained popularity and in 1972 they were joined by keyboardist Craig Frost. After a lawsuit with former manager Terry Knight, the band shortened their name to Grand Funk and continued recording until 1976. Since then Grand Funk has reformed in various incarnations, the last being a reunion tour in 1997 and 1998. Since then, Mark Farner has continued with his solo career and Grand Funk Railroad has reformed with the addition of three new members.
