David Byrne left the Rhode Island School of Design in 1974 to pursue his musical interests. The following year he and two fellow students formed the punk/art-funk/new wave band Talking Heads. Sixteen years and eleven albums later, Byrne embarked on a solo career. Luaka Bop, a small record label he founded, showcases his solo works and those of artists from around the world. Byrne has also written scores for ballet and brass band, shared an Oscar for the score of The Last Emperor, co-written, starred in, and directed the film True Stories, and is a visual artist working primarily with photography.
