Born in Sioux City, Iowa in 1951, Thomas Richard Bolin dropped out of school at 15 and became lead guitarist for bands such as Zephyr, America Standard, Energy and The James Gang, before joining Deep Purple in 1975. On December 4, 1976 Tommy Bolin died of a drug overdose in a Miami, Florida hotel room. He was 25 years old.
