Bobby Bland, born in 1930, moved to nearby Memphis as a teenager and soon became part of the Beale Street blues scene.
The soul-blues vocalist has released over 50 recordings and had dozens of singles on the R&B charts, including "I Pity the Fool" and "Turn On Your Love Light."
Recognition of Bland includes induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997, and a Blues Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998.
