Sites about the alternative band started in Jamestown, New York, originally fronted by Natalie Merchant. After Merchant's departure, singer and violist Mary Ramsey and former guitarist John Lombardo joined the lineup. The two had performed as the duo John and Mary (releasing two albums) while Lombardo was away from the band. Guitarist Robert Buck passed away on December 19, 2000 of liver failure following an undisclosed illness. The future of the band is uncertain at this time.
