Based on the novel, The Princess Bride : S. Morgenstern's Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure : The 'Good Parts' Version, Abridged, by William Goldman. Released in 1987, starring Cary Elwes, Robin Wright [Penn], Mandy Patinkin, Andre the Giant, Fred Savage, Peter Falk, Billy Crystal, and more. A romance, fantasy, action/adventure and comedy. It has true love, sword fights, revenge, chases, swamps, giants, evil kings, miracles, pirates, R.O.U.S. (Rodents of Unusual Size), princesses, kissing, dungeons, and more. Plot summary: Buttercup (Robin Wright) is a young girl that finds true love with the farmboy, Westly (Cary Elwes). They wish to marry, but he must first leave the farm to seek his fortune, and promises to return for her. Sometime later she learns that he was murdered by the Dread Pirate Roberts, and swears never to love again. She becomes engaged to Prince Humperdinck (though she does not love him), but before the wedding, she is kidnapped by three men, Vizzini, Fezzick and Inigo (who is searching for the six-fingered man that murdered his father). They take her away on a ship, but are pursued by a strange man in black...[much more happens, but I don't want to ruin it]. One of the most popular movies and novels ever, still widely loved.
