Director of countless movies for release in theaters and on television during the 'Golden Age,' successfully mastering both mediums. Delbert Mann made his feature film debut adapting one of the dramas he had already handled on the small screen, "Marty" (1955). This film ushered in an era of naturalism in American films and won four Academy Awards. His movie worked ranged from classic adaptations, to comedies, to romances, or adventures. Mann is remembered for directing dramas for Philco-Goodyear Television Playhouse and was president of the Directors Guild of America [1967-1971].
