John Houston, 1906-87, American motion picture director and screenplay writer. Many great classic films, including "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" (1948), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Director. An actor as well, he was nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of a menacing patriarch in Chinatown (1974). His father was actor Walter Huston and daughter is actress Anjelica Huston.
