Born in the U.S., Rule moved to Canada in 1956. Her work centers around lesbian themes and she is best known for the novel, Desert of the Heart, which was made into the movie, Desert Hearts. Other works include After the Fire, The Young in One Another's Arms, and Lesbian Images.
