Norman Nicholson, (1914-87) British poet, playwright and critic. He was born in Millom In Cumbria, on the fringe of the Lake District, which he writes about in several of his books such as 'The Lakes' (1977), as well as in his poetry. He was awarded the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry in 1977, and the OBE in 1981. The 'Times' obituarist called him 'the most gifted Christian poet of the century'.
