Trappists is the popular name for members of the Roman Catholic Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance (OCSO), which traces its beginnings back to the reforms introduced (1664) by Armand Jean le Bouthillier de Rancé (1626-1700) at the monastery of La Trappe near Seez, France.
