Sanitary engineering is the application of scientific or mathematical principles to the field of sanitation, especially in regards to its effect on public health. It includes the design of sewers, sewage treatment and waste water treatment facilities, recycling centers and public landfills. It also includes such things as a plan of action to reverse the effects of water pollution or soil contamination.
