Edwin Herbert Land was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on May 7, 1909. He founded the Polaroid Company in 1937, which produced military related items during World War II. The company's most successful product was the Polaroid Land Camera, introduced in the late 1940's as the first "instant" camera.
