Michael Denzil Xavier Portillo (born 26 May 1953) is a British journalist and former Conservative politician. Member of Parliament for Enfield Southgate (13 December 1984 – 1 May 1997), Member of Parliament for Kensington and Chelsea (25 November 1999 – 5 May 2005). He was considered a likely challenger to Major during the 1995 Conservative leadership contest, but he stayed loyal. Portillo retired from the Commons at the 2005 general election and concentrated on his media interests, presenting television and radio programmes.
