This category lists pages and sites about World War II, the most devastating war in human history. World War II began in 1939 as a European conflict. It grew into global conflict, however, pitting the Axis powers of Germany, Italy, and Japan against the Allied powers which included the United States and Great Britain. The bloody conflict drew to a close in 1945, with Italy surrendering on May 2, Germany on May 7, and Japan on Aug. 14.
