1913-1995 Canadian author, playwright, and critic. Named a Companion of the Order of Canada in 1972 and the first Canadian to be made an honorary member of the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters in 1980. His books include Murther and Walking Spirits, The Deptford Trilogy, and The Cunning Man.
